What's so great about Wutzle?
If you have been wondering why you should join the Wutzle community or if you have doubts to the differences between Wutzle and its predecessors then you have come to the right place! Wutlze is not just your every day Internet Directory. If you are searching for a Directory you can head over to dmoz.org as they provide the most extensive and non-biased Website Directories in existence today. Wutzle understands this. This is why Wutzle has incorporated much more into the development of its Blog Directory:
If you have already had the chance to use Wutzle then you have probably noticed the Wutzle "toolbar" that is displayed above the included Blog's content. This toolbar allows you to scroll through multiple Blogs listed in the same category as the primary with the touch of a button. In short, each Wutzle category is its own Blog Ring. So, you say you have seen other Blog Directories with this technology? Read on...
Wutzle has integrated a Blog Rating system in order to rank the Blogs listed within each category. Members are able to rate each Blog on a one to five star scale determined by the Blog's content, usability and overall appearance. The blogs are then sorted and ranked on a complex algorithm that takes into consideration the total number of votes and the total accumulated score. Ok, so its starting to sound better. What else?
You may have noticed the Wutzle logo that is displayed on several Blogs. Not only will a click on this logo allow the user to give the Blog a rating and surf through alternate Blogs within the same category or Blog Ring, but the logo has also been created in such a way that it acts as its own hit counter tool. Average Blog visitors per day are calculated by how many times the user's logo has been requested and how long the website has been listed in Wutzle. This information is utilized in several different ways throughout Wutzle. First off, the Blogs popularity plays an important roll in the ranking of the Blog within its category along with the ratings as noted above. Also, popular Blogs may be randomly listed throughout the Wutzle website pending the developer's discretion. But wait, thereís more...
Wutzle News has been created in an effort to assist Bloggers who are in a loss as to what to write about. News feeds on various subjects are pulled in from leading News resources such as CNN, New York Times and ZDNet and displayed in real time throughout the day. When a Wutzle Member decides to Blog about a certain event found on Wutzle News that member may then choose to have their Blog displayed next to that coinciding News article on Wutzle. And, that's just the beginning! When that user submits the Blog to Wutzle News a new Blog Ring will instantaneously be created for that News article. Therefore, when another member submits their Blog to the same News article they will also be included in that Blog Ring.
New features are being added to Wutzle on a daily basis. Like the old saying goes, "What makes the ordinary extraordinary is having that little extra". Sign me up!
Am I required to create an account or own a Blog?
No. You do not have to create an account in order to use Wutzle. You may browse through the Directory, visit as many Blogs as you like and even read the Wutzle News without even having your own Blog. If you have your own Blog it is recommended that you create an account in order to access many features including the ability to rate Blogs, post on the Wutzle Blog Forum or comment on The Wutzle Blog. If you do not have a Blog of your own don't feel left out! You may still become a member and make as many Blog comments or Forum posts as you like! You will not be restricted for not owning a Blog.
How much does Wutzle cost?
Absolutely nothing. Wutzle is completely free to use for the Blogger and non-Blogger alike. Wutzle monetizes its website by utilizing a cost per click advertising solution through Google.
Do I have to give you my e-mail address?
You do not need to supply Wutzle with an e-mail address if you are not a member. Although, during the membership application process you must provide Wutzle with a valid e-mail address. The e-mail address provided will initially be used for validation purposes as a verification code will be sent immediately after registration. The purpose of using your e-mail address for validation is to decrease the number of Blog spammers and automation scripts that run through Wutzle every day. This is for our safety as well as your own.
Wutzle may periodically send an e-mail to its members for update notification and Wutzle news, but will not sell or distribute your e-mail address to a third party in any way, shape or form. Wutzle respects your privacy. If you would like your e-mail address completely removed from the Wutzle system after validation has been complete, you may contact us with your request.
How do I add my blog to categories?
Wutzle strives to make the website as user friendly as possible. This is why future updates hope to make category additions simpler. Currently, you are able to add your Blog to a category through the Wutzle Directory itself. After you have logged into Wutzle and have added a Blog into the Wutzle database you will have to proceed to the Directory either by clicking on the "Browse Categories" link in the memberís area or by clicking "Enter the Wutzle Blog Directory" on the Wutzle homepage. Once in the Directory you must browse through the categories and find a suitable placement for the Blog in question. If you are still logged in you will notice a new control panel on the left column of your screen just below the directory breadcrumbs. There is a button in this control panel titled "Add Now". By clicking this button when you have arrived at the chosen category you will be taken to a proceeding screen which lists your current Blogs in the Wutzle database. From this screen you are able to place your Blog into the selected category. Try it out! It's easier than it sounds.
How do I use Wutzle News?
Wutzle News is very simple to use. By clicking on any one of the news articles you will be taken to a website outside of Wutzle. This website will be opened in a new window so you may simply close this window to return to Wutzle. Wutzle News was designed to give Bloggers ideas and recent stories to share their opinion about. If you find a story of interest to you within the News consortium and you share your judgment on your Blog you may then share your Blog to the Wutzle community by placing it next to that article; simply log into Wutzle with your current login information and head to the Wutzle News area. If you are still logged in you will now notice a plus sign (ď+") to the right of every article. Find the article you have written your comment to and click on the plus sign next to it. Since each user is allowed up to three Blogs you will be prompted to select which Blog you posted your comment on. Select your Blog and press the Submit button. Your Blog has now been added to a new Wutzle Blog ring in reference to that News article!
Once a Wutzle News Blog Ring has been started, others may join this ring with their comments as well. This will allow for a large discussion on a single subject throughout several different Blogs. Try it out! It could be fun!
Why should I place a Wutzle logo on my blog?
Wutzle understands that you are the designer of your own Blog and in no way are we to intrude by forcing you to advertise for our sake. Although placing a Wutzle logo on your Blog is completely optional there are many benefits for doing so. First and foremost, a Wutzle Logo displays your Blogís current rating. You can now gloat to your friends about how much better your Blog is than theirs!
Also, the logo serves as a direct link to your Blogís Ring in Wutzle. This will be one of the few ways your Blog can gain more ratings. If youíre stuck at a rating of two stars then this will be the perfect way to help increase your rating!
Finally, the logo has been created in such a way that it acts as its own hit counter tool. Wutzle will keep track of your average visitors per day and may utilize this information in various ways. Your Blogís popularity plays an important roll in the ranking of Blogs within a Wutzle category along with your Blogís user rating. Also, popular Blogs may be randomly listed throughout the Wutzle website pending the developer's discretion.
In short, we will not penalize you for your refusal to place the Logo on your Blog but you will be properly rewarded if you do.
